What is Tai Chi & Qi Gong?

Tai Chi and Qi Gong are ancient Chinese practices based on slow, gentle movements, controlled breathing and focused attention. Often described as “moving meditation”, they encourage relaxation, body awareness and a sense of wellbeing.

The movements are low impact and can be adapted to suit different ages and abilities. Many exercises can also be performed seated, making them accessible to people who may find standing exercise difficult.

Benefits of Tai Chi & Qi Gong

Regular practice may help to:

  • Improve balance and coordination – gentle movements can help develop strength, stability and body awareness.
  • Promote relaxation – controlled breathing and focused movement can encourage a calmer mind and help reduce everyday stress.
  • Maintain flexibility and mobility – slow, flowing movements gently exercise the joints and muscles without high-impact activity.
  • Support general fitness and wellbeing – regular practice can contribute to strength, mobility and overall physical and mental wellbeing.
